What is a couple photo session? (e-shoot) What do we wear? Should we bring anything?
I have designed this document to help couples with the common questions “What should I expect? What do we wear? Do we need to bring anything?”. The main factors that will help with your couple photo session are: Location, lighting, clothing and emotional interaction with each other and myself.
In this document I have included a collection of images from my favourite couple portrait sessions. The style displayed is inline with a nice colourful edit, beautiful light in a variety of locations, notice the images include couples that look and feel comfortable, dressed to match their personality. ( In all of these images the location and time of day having been taken into account to achieve the best results.) I have also included a list of ‘activities’ below, these activities will help invoke emotion into our photo session.
REMEMBER ‘what you wear’ impacts the final result of the images.
Colour works: Using bright colours works wonders. As seen In many of the examples, if one person is wearing a
brightly coloured or patterned outfit the other person will be dressed in more neutral style to balance the image.
Try to compliment each other.
Shoes and accessories such as socks, handbags, bow ties, suspenders, picnic towel etc all make for interesting additions to your images ( examples of these can all be found on the Pinterest mood board linked below ).
I should note don’t typically like using ‘corny’ props as its not really my style. however working with things relevant to your out fit and the situation / environment can work wonders.
In the example directly below the addition of a simple blue denim top on ‘Jessie’ next to a more neutral colour outfit for ‘Luka’ adds just the right amount of colour to the photo and really effects the final edit in a positive way.
Colours work AMAZINGLY especially when we are shooting in a forrest, with some nice greenery.
Nevertheless, it is still important to dress as your selves and be comfortable in what you’re wearing. You can break the rules and go with a
more coordinated formal theme with less colour. There are so many ways we can approach this aspect of the portrait session.
I hope this document has been somewhat helpful in deciding what you will wear for your couple portrait session, at the end of the day this is just a guide.
You still have to be yourselves and feel comfortable.
A list of activities I need you to choose from as per the instructions below.
Factors in a good photo shoot:
-What you wear.
-Lighting. (time of day)
Food for thought:
– Emotional response with a love letter ( or some thing from the list )
-Floral head piece.
